When will the coding bootcamp bubble burst?
Last Updated: December 2nd 2024
I do not believe the bootcamp bubble will burst, but we can expect the formula to evolve and be disrupted to better serve the needs of all aspiring developers.
The options available to this audience are so limited at the moment that it will change out of necessity. Anyone looking at getting the coding skills needed to get a job in this space is evaluating two solutions: bootcamp or online.
- Bootcamp means for many: quit your current job, take on a loan and sometimes commit to drive 1h+ to the bootcamp location;
- While Online will mean for many: sign-up for cheap online, unfortunately with a thin chance to commit to it fully.
To further illustrate #1: place a dot centered on every bootcamp location in the US, and with a 30 miles radius. We’re missing so many communities right now! And overlapping and competing on so few.
That’s the #1 challenge with the current Bootcamp business model: it can’t grow fast enough and in a profitable way. Of course online providers like edX or Coursera have a much better scale and coverage - but they can’t offer and promise the right outcome to their students.
And that’s what we’re aiming to solve at nucamp, serve all the local communities with the right curriculum and learning outcomes.
Would love to hear your thoughts and discuss further!
